The Victor Jara Lane Project works to implement various projects that honour the revolutionary Chilean teacher, theatre director, poet, singer- songwriter, and political activist. Assassinated in the initial days of Pinochet's regime, Jara and his work became pillars of solidarity for the Chilean people who lived and survived the 1973 coup d'etat. His work also contributed towards other social struggles throughout Latin American.

The Victor Jara Lane Project is composed
of three sub-projects:

1. The naming of a Toronto lane which occurred in 2006. The Victor Jara Lane is located one block south of Davenport Road and Ossington Ave.

2. The painting of a mural which commemorates Jara. The design is to be painted on the Shaw/ Davenport Library Branch facade located in the lane.

3. The compilation of books, videos, CDs, records, music and other material by and about Victor Jara. These materials will be used to create a resource center within the Shaw/Davenport Library Branch.
