The Latin American Heritage Month, which occurs in November of each year, is dedicated to the implementation of art and art history workshops and lectures within the Toronto District School Board.

By bringing Latin American art history to the classroom, it aims to create in youth a sense of pride in their heritage. It also raises awareness regarding the importance of Latin American contributions to the arts scene in Canada.

The Month is unique in its approach: young Latin American artists work alongside established professional artists to deliver engaging lectures/workshops. This dynamic provides youth with diverse perspectives and exemplary solidarity within the community.

  PLEASE NOTE:
On Tuesday, December 8th, 2008 LACAP co-supported a petition requesting the official declaration of April as "Hispanic-Canadian and Indigenous Heritage Month" by the Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments. Although LACAP does not agree with the term "hispanic" we will continue to support collective efforts, such as this, that constitute important first steps towards the development of our community.

We will continue to collaborate in good faith, promoting the broadest unity, tolerance and inclusion of all Latin Americans in every aspect of our work, including the "Hispanic-Canadian and Indigenous Heritage Month".
